Bowls
As a ceramic artist I have a lot of bowls
but I never seem to run out of uses for them. Sometimes they hold fruit,
other times floating candles, candies, chips, or cookies. But usually
something that will get finished quickly so that people can see the
design inside. Or you can hang them on a wall. The smaller ones are
great for ice cream or noodles--or as a place where you put your keys.
It may be possible to have too many bowls, but I don't think so.

GOLD LEAVES BOWLS
These elegantly simple bowls feature
a central gold leaf motif and are available in a large (approx. 11"
diameter) and small (approx.
7" diameter) size.
The large size is $78 and the small is $34.

SWIRL
BOWLS
The interlocking swirl remains my most popular
design. The design is painted in wax directly on the black clay and
then glaze is applied leaving recessed black lines where the wax was
painted. The wax then burns off when the bowls are fired in the kiln.
By the way, I freehand paint each design - it's precise but not static
as it might be if I used a stencil.
The large bowl (approx. 11" diameter) is
$78 and the small (approximately 7" diameter) is $34.

TALL CLIMBING LEAF BOWL
This tall version of the climbing leaf
bowl is great for filling with cherries and passing around at parties.
Because I place the design on both the inside and the outside of the
bowl, the design is visible from all angles - whether the bowl is on
a high shelf or on a table top.
This bowl is 6-7" high and is approximately
10" in diameter. It is $86.

MOROCCAN LOTUS BOWL #1
I really love Moroccan designs but their
potters tend to go for speed rather than perfection and its had to find
good quality. So I reinterpret Moroccan motifs and offer this exotic
look in a really finely crafted bowl with a small foot (pierced so that
it can be hung) and a decorative rim.
Approximately 12" in diameter, this bowl
is $150.

MOROCCAN LOTUS BOWL #2
Similar to the MOROCCAN
LOTUS BOWL#1(above) but with 4 colors
and more detailed design. This bowl is $175.

TURKISH LEAF BOWL
The 17th century Turks had some of the
best pottery ever made. But when Turkey fell on less prosperous times,
as in most societies, art was one of the first sacrifices. Now if you
can find a piece of this pottery which isn't damaged in some way, its
illegal to take it out of Turkey. This is my homage to Turkish pottery.
The bowl is pproximately 12" diameter with
a small foot which is pierced to allow the bowl to be hung and a rim.
It is $175.

JAPONESQUE
BOWL
I should have called this my arts &
crafts bowl because this type of indirect borrowing from the far east
is so typical of the arts & crafts designers. The interlocking dogwood
blossoms are reminiscent of Japanese design as is the juxtaposition
with a geometric motif, but the techniques used are purely early 20th
century American/British.
The bowl is about 12" in diameter with a
small pierced foot to allow it to be hung and a rim. It will look great
with your Mission style furniture and costs $175.
